SXSW  
SXSW Music Conference and Festival in Austin Texas is one of the largest, most influential, and most anticipated music events of the year. Artists, agents, promoters, and talent buyers mix and mingle with hundreds of media representatives, managers, legal experts, and other professionals to hear amazing music of every genre and conduct crucial business. Careers are launched, deals are struck, advice is shared, fans are created, and media around the world fill TV screens, airwaves, magazine pages, and websites with daily reviews and reports. SXSW Music Conference and Festival draws over 1200 music industry professionals for compelling panels, industry discussions, demo listening sessions, trade show exhibits, and - as always - five nights of music by more than 2000 acts hailing from 33 different countries, performing in over 80 venues in downtown Austin, Texas. They take band submissions in August and the deadline to submit is early November. 
 
CMJ Music Marathon  
CMJ Music Marathon takes place in New York for 5 days every October. With over 1000 bands playing in 65 venues to over 100,000 music fans and industry professionals it is a great way to get your band exposure. The website tells you how you can submit your band for consideration.
 
North by Northeast  
This Canada Festival & Conference takes place every June in Toronto, Ontario. Over 500 bands in 40 venues play to 100,000 music fans and industry executives. Artists can apply on-line to play this annual festival.  
 
Festival Preview   Free Service
Festival Preview is a comprehensive list of music festivals you can explore, navigate lineups and discover artists. You can search by festival name, artist or region. As a band it is a great way to find festivals to play.  
 
Festival Network On-line   Nomad Contributor
This site allows you to search music festivals in states. With over 20,000 North American events, FNO provides artists, musicians, craftspeople, vendors, and booking agents with the most comprehensive searchable database of events anywhere. There are some free basic searches you can do, but to get detailed information there is a charge. 
 
AthFest Music & Arts Festival  
AthFest Music & Arts Festival takes place in Athens, GA for 3 days every June. Over 150 bands play in 17 venues.  
 
Austin City Limits  
Austin City Limits takes place in Austin, TX for 3 days every September. Not quite as big as SXSW but a great place to get exposure for your band.  The website tells you how you can submit your band for consideration. Over 100 bands play to thousands of people.  
 
Bumbershoot  
Allows you to apply to play. Since 1971, Bumbershoot has drawn artists representing the best in music, film, comedy, spoken word, dance, theatre, performance, and visual arts to the Seattle Center over Labor Day weekend. Over 150,000 visitors from near and far spend the weekend reveling in the world of Bumbershoot, experiencing everything from regional favorites to international
 
Canadian Music Week  
Canadian Music Week takes place every March in Toronto, Canada featuring over 600 bands in 45 venues, education seminars and speakers focusing on the music industry trends. They accept band submissions. 
 
Coachella  
Coachella Festival takes place every April in Indio, CA. Over 100 bands play in 3 days.

A free site where you'll discover the latest details on more than 2,500 music festivals in North America. You can search by genre and can get the link for each festival and navigate their site to see how you can try to get your band to perform at the festivals.
 
High Sierra Music Festival  
High Sierra Music Festival takes place every July in Quincy, CA. Over 75 bands play in 5 days. They do not take submissions and hand pick their bands. If you are not playing, it is encouraged by them to bring your instruments and play acoustic sets to fans at the festival campgrounds. 
 
In the Dead of Winter  
In the Dead of Winter is an acoustic based music festival takes place every January in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada featuring over 50 bands.  
 
lollapalooza  
Lollapalooza takes place every August in Chicago, IL. Over 125 bands play in 3 days. They take band submissions on their site.
 
Monolith Music Festival  
Monolith Music Festival takes place every September in Morrison, CO. Over 50 bands on 6 stages play over two days. They have a link on their website for bands to submit their request to play.
 
Musicfest NW  
MusicFestNW happens every September in Portland, OR. Over 200 bands play in 21 venues in 4 days. You can submit your band to play on their site.  
 
Musikfest  
Musikfest takes place every August in Bethlehem, PA. Over 500 bands play in 10 days. They take band submissions on their site which begins in November and ends early March
 
Pitch Fork Music Festival  
Pitch Fork Music Festival takes place in Chicago, IL for 3 days every July. Over 40 bands on 3 stages play. They do not take submissions on their website.  
 
Sasquatch Festival  
Sasquatch Festival takes place every May in Quincy, WA. Over 100 bands play in 3 days.
 
Sled Island  
Sled Island takes place every June in Calgary Alberta, Canada with over 170 bands in 4 days and 17,500 attendees.  
 
Summer Camp Festival  
Summer Camp Festival occurs every May in Chillicothe, IL. Over 40 bands place in 3 days.  
 
Summerfest  
Summerfest takes place for 11 days in June/July in Milwaukee, WI. Over 700 bands play in 11 venues over 11 days.
 
Sunset Strip Music Festival  
Sunset Strip Music Festival takes place in June in West Hollywood, CA.  Over 50 bands in 6 clubs play over three days.  They do not have a link on their website for band submissions. 
 
The Great Escape Festival  
This UK (England) Festival occurs every May and features over 200 bands in 25 venues over 3 days. Artists can submit via their website to play at the festival. Some say this is Europe's answer to SXSW in Texas. They also have an on line music store that you can upload your music for free even if you are not playing the festival.  
 
Voodoo Experience  
Voodoo Experience takes place every October in New Orleans, LA.  Over 100 bands play over 3 days. They have a link on their website for bands to submit their request to play. 
 
Wakarusa  
Wakarusa Festival takes place every June in Ozark, AR. Over 100 bands play in 3 days.
